tour info:
by the end of the further down the spiral tour, nine inch nails were exhausted and somewhat frustrated. at the end of the final show in new orleans, trent reznor announced "this is the last show we're going to play for a long fucking time...". however, a call from one of his idols, david bowie, changed that. trent sought to escape the creatively stifling atmosphere of the previous tours by completely revamping the setlist and including some duets with david bowie. in the enourmous outdoor venues, the band arrived onstage unexpectedly, and in a much more focused fashion. the stripped down set included some new songs, remixes of older songs and previously non-live songs. the poise and confidence soon turned into boredom with the largely unresponsive crowds, leaving both nine inch nails and david bowie somewhat disappointed in the end.
